The arts are far more entwined than many will ever realise – artists of all forms know this. As a music student I couldn’t help but wonder how influential music was to 2019 Booker Prize winner Bernardine Evaristo.

The four-time Grammy-winning collective Snarky Puppy returned last week with the release of their thirteenth album, Empire Central.

If I had to say what I missed the most over the year and a half (or so) of on-and-off lockdowns and restrictions, it was definitely the lack of live music I could experience – whether that was listening to it or performing myself.

Historically, both the LGBTQ+ community and ‘the composer’ have been painted as ‘the outsider’ by many, but LGBTQ+ composers have been present throughout musical history.
